
When Rockefeller was still young his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There he left highschool to take on business training around 1853. Oil was found a few years later in 1859 in the not-too-distant town Titusville. Rockefeller was attracted to the oil business, but he was repelled by the wildcatters. he finally made a bid in 1863, by creating a refining business with Maurice B. Clark and other partners. In 1870, Rockefeller teamed with his brother William, Henry M. Fla ger, and Samuel Andrews to establish the Standard Oil Company. Rockefeller had followed other business interests besides oil, especially toward the end of his tenture. He dabbled in banks, railroads, timber, iron feilds, and was a director of U.S. steel. Rockefeller had 4 daughters and one son John D. Rockefeller jr. who was largely entrusted with the supervision of the foundations. Rockefeller spent the last 40 years of his life in retirement, he had made over $1,000,000,000. Rockefeller died of arterioscerosis on may 23rd, in 1937, 2 months shy of his 98th birthday and he was buried in Lakeview Cemetary in Cleveland, Ohio
